This month marks the third anniversary of one of Central’s young people success stories. Gareth Lynch was sent to Central on a two-month work placement scheme by his local Job Centre - and three years later he is a fully trained and valued member of the sales team.
Gareth, 25, from Huyton in Merseyside, left school with an open mind and a determination to find employment. Having completed three previous work placement schemes, all of which were followed by short periods of full time employment, Gareth found a job role he wanted to pursue at Central.
During his two-month placement at Central he experienced work in all areas of the business from the workshop and stores to the office and sales department. His enthusiasm and interest in sales were recognised by Central’s Sales Manager, who suggested Gareth was offered a full time job in the department.
Having had no previous experience in the industry or in sales, Gareth was given in house training by Andy Brown, Product Sales Manager, and now works in the department as a Technical Internal Sales assistant. His role includes assisting Account Managers in their work with clients; interpreting customers’ requirements; providing concise quotations and processing complex orders.
Three years later Gareth is an integral part of the Central team, providing an essential service which is valued by his colleagues and customers alike.
His story is a further demonstration of Central’s commitment to young people, helping to provide training and find them full time work. It’s Apprenticeship programme is currently training seven individuals all of whom are earning a wage whilst learning from skilled and experienced engineers and will be able to find full time employment with qualifications and work experience gained at Central.
